The first step

 

Go to https://vdi.uwasa.fi/

 

Note! 
After entering your username and password, approve the login in Microsoft Authenticator, unless approved you get noticed "Access denied".
If you are not already using two-step authentication here are the instructions for MFA authentication.

Choose Default sign-in method: Microsoft Authenticator Notification. (App Based Authentication - notification)

If you already had MFA in use in another way, e.g. SMS or OATH TOTP one-time code (App based authentication or hardware token - code), you can make the change at https://aka.ms/mfasetup and choose App Based Authentication - notification.

 

1. Install a local software. Installation for a staff device can be done from the Software Center.

2. Use a browser-based version.

Install a client version

 

Download Omnissa Horizon Client package, which is compatible with your device from the developer's page.

After the download, start the installation file and choose "Agree & Install".

An installation begins.

An installation has been successfully completed.

 

Finish the installation by restarting your device.

Launch the application from the shortcut

 

Select "Add server".

 

Enter "https://vdi.uwasa.fi/" as the connection server.

 

Login by using only your username (e.g. a12345) and password.

You can choose an option, which you prefer.

 

Now a locally installed VMware Horizon and all software are at your disposal. You can quit a session from "Disconnect from this server", located top-left corner of the user-interface.

Quit a session by pressing "OK".

 

 

 

 

Using a browser-based version

 

Go to https://vdi.uwasa.fi/ and select option "VMware Horizon HTML Access".

 

Login by using only your username (e.g. a12345) and password.

 

Processing the logging in. 

 

Note! After entering your username and password, accept the login in Microsoft Authenticator. If you are not already using two-step authentication here are the instructions MFA authentication.

 

You can select a software from the view.

 

You can open or minimize a side panel of VMware Horizon.

 

You can stop a software, which you are running.

.

 

You can launch a software from the list of side panel.

 

You can logout by using a following method.

Open the toolbar of VMware Horizon and select ”Settings...”.

 

 

Select "Drive Sharing" and allow acces to the Mac home folder.

 

 

Now in File - Open or File - Save windows you can choose your Mac.

 

 

Windows: using locally saved data with a local software

 

1. Open ”Settings” from the bottom-left corner.


2. Select ”Drive & Folder Sharing” ja press ”Add”.

 


3. In the opening window of “Select Folder”, you can choose which local folder from your computer you want use with the Horizon platform (in these instructions Desktop is used as the local folder). Confirm your selection by pressing “Select Folder”.

 


4. Now the selected folder should be viewable in the listing of “Drive & Folder Sharing”. You can return back to the software list from the icon located on the top-left corner.


5. Now the selected local folder should be available on all Horizon environment programs.

 

The browser-based version: importing files to the Horizon platform



1. Open some application at the browser-based version (SPSS was used in these instructions).
2. When an application, open the grey tab, which you find from the left-side of the display.


 
3. When the settings open, please proceed as follows.
3.1 Press the ”Open file transfer panel” button.
3.2 Select the “Upload” tab from the “Transfer Files” window.
3.3 Press the “Choose Files” button.
3.4 Search and browser a file, which you want import to the Horizon platform.
3.5 Confirm the import process with the ”Open” button.


 
4. Now the ”Transfer Files” window shows that file has been imported to the Horizon environment. You can close the window form the top-right corner.


 
5. An imported file can be found from a user’s Documents folder (on Horizon). For instance student account a12345 finds an imported file from the following path Local Disk (C:) → Users  → a12345  → Documents.


 

The browser-based version: saving to the Z-drive

 


After the import, it is recommended to save material to Z-drive, which should be automatically available on every Horizon’s  applications.
 

The browser-based version: saving files locally to a user’s own device



You can files from the Horizon to your own device by following these steps. In these instructions file has been downloaded from the Z-drive.


1. Open an application’s file browsing (SPSS was used in these instructions).


 
2. Open the Horizon’s destination, where the file (which you want download) is located.
 

3. Open the grey tab, which you find from the left-side of the display.


4. Press the ”Open file transfer panel” button and select the “Download” tab from the “Transfer Files” window.
 

5.1 Click with the mouse on the file which you want download and press a keyboard button combination “CTRL” and “C” (on macOS devices the combination is “Command” and “C”).
5.2 As a result of the keyboard combination, the file now appears to the “Transfer Files” window.
5.3 You can start the download with the download icon, the file will be downloaded to the Downloads folder (on Windows and macOS devices both).
